哈尔滨 Harbin

Born as a railway town on the Trans-Manchurian line in 1898, Harbin grew into a cosmopolitan port of architects and merchants from Russia, France and Japan — earning the name 「Moscow of the East」.

1898年因中东铁路而生，哈尔滨长成一座万国商埠——俄、法、日的建筑师与商人留下的洋楼遍地，「东方莫斯科」由此得名。

Winter is the main event: the Ice and Snow World raises full-size castles from frozen river water, while the city streets glow with a century-old tradition of ice lanterns.

冬天是这座城市的主场：冰雪大世界用江冰筑起真尺寸的城堡，街头百年冰灯传统照样点亮。

In summer, the Songhua River takes over — riverside promenades, ferry crossings to Sun Island, and Europe-styled streets where Russian bread and ice cream sell year-round.

When the Chinese Eastern Railway reached the Songhua River in 1898, Harbin was a fishing village; within thirty years, consulates and banks from two dozen nations lined its new boulevards.

The architectural legacy stayed: St. Sophia's green onion dome, Central Street's Renaissance facades — the largest collection of period European architecture in China.

Ice lanterns began as fishermen's frozen candle holders; today the Harbin Ice and Snow World, founded in 1999, builds an entire city of ice each winter and draws millions.
